After some consideration, I have decided that my mathematical and problem solving skill set is my area of expertise. I have been inclined to math and science since I was in elementary school and can remember being removed from my classes and given the opportunity to work with my principal on applied math and science problems.
Since this time, I have dedicated my studies to engineering which utilizes my critical thinking and analytical skills. I enjoy performing calculus problems and the longer and more challenging the problem is, the more I enjoy it. Last semester, for example, I took a graduate-level mechanical engineering course called “Continuum Mechanics” which utilizes mathematical methods to describe the reactions of a mechanical system in any coordinate system by treating the system as a continuous body. We made use of constitutive equations which were given to us by the professor. I am not one to given accept information without determining the original source so I spent an entire week deriving each constitutive equation from scratch and my final product included about thirty pages of differential equations.
I am detailed-oriented and slightly obsessive compulsive. I say this in jest however my need for complete comprehension and pure enjoyment of the sciences and math has lead me down an academic course which I have thoroughly enjoyed and am proud of.
